Continuing unit on myths.  Understanding the differences among myths, quests, and legends. Reading a Hawaiian myth to compare/ contrast to Greek myths. Reading quests on King Arthur and attaining knighthood.    

Continuing the novel, That Was Then, This Is Now. Responding to oral quiz on Chapters 9-11. Reviewing all vocab from the novel for a test next Tues.   

Closing the novel, A Long Way from Chicago. Creating a new chapter adventure for the novel with a partner. Rough drafts and peer editing. Presenting the new chapters on Thursday.  

Continuing myths. Creating a chart on purposes/ themes of myths, quests, and legends. Responding to oral questions on Hawaiian myth. Open discussion on King Arthur and knighthood.

Continuing That Was Then, This Is Now. Completing study guide on story elements. Evaluating character development. Connecting story events to real life. Identifying the theme of the novel.  

Closing novel, A Long Way From Chicago. Composing letters to their grandmas for Mother’s Day and mailing them. Responding  to journal article on the value of extended family as expressed in the novel.
